Referral Rewards
We are so thankful for the many referrals we receive from our families excited to share the great things they are experiencing at Good Shepherd. As we partner with parents to spread the good news about Good Shepherd Christian Academy we established a referral rewards program. The new student referral rewards program is an incentive plan for existing Good Shepherd families to recruit new families to our school. For ever new family with a child in kindergarten through 6th grade that you refer to Good Shepherd, your family can directly benefit. The New Student Referral Reward Application can be found on ParentsWeb or you may call the Business office 703-591-1216. We thank our families for their ongoing support.
Communication
For general school communication, the school strives to communicate all information of interest to the parents in an effective and timely fashion through various channels: e-mails, letters sent home, our monthly newsletter for all school families and ParentWeb (RenWeb), our data base system, to which all parents have access. Classroom teachers in upper levels may also send newsletters, weekly reminder and emails; this varies depending on grade level and teacher. Parents reading these communications will be well informed of all developments in a timely manner.
In addition to the events of the school, effective communication between parent and teacher is vital for the success and well being of each student. The goal at Good Shepherd is to mirror Christ-like conversations and provide a model of effective and solution oriented communication for students. Parent-teacher teams work together in the best interests of the child. The objective is to build a level of trust and confidence so that the team can work effectively for the success of each student. Parents are encouraged to schedule a parent/teacher conference whenever concerns or feed back are necessary or simply to check in to gauge progress. Teachers and the Principal are available to parents throughout the school year and conferences can be scheduled whenever necessary or desired. Teachers may similarly reach out to parents should there be a situation requiring one on one discussion. Parents are asked to avoid trying to have a conference at arrival or dismissal time or during field trips when a teacher is responsible for supervising his/her students and/or greeting other parents but to be mindful of appropriate settings and the amount of time needed for discussion. If a parent wishes to meet with a teacher, he/she can set up a time by sending a note, emailing, or calling the school office and leaving a message for the teacher.
Mid Year Parent Survey
We are always looking for ways to expand the level of communication and the services we can provide to the families of our students. Therefore every year we ask parents to complete an online mid-year parent survey. Parent feedback helps us in our quest to identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement.
Family Handbook
The Family Handbook is available on ParentWeb. We ask you to please read through the handbook sign the back page and submit it to the office. This serves as an excellent reference for questions you may have during the year.
Carpooling
Carpooling is beneficial for parents and helpful in maintaining reasonable flow of traffic at school. Little Flock encourages parents to carpool to and from school. If you are interested in carpooling with other LFCS families please contact the office to request the carpool list.
Parent/Grandparent Volunteers
We greatly appreciate parent volunteers at Good Shepherd and Little Flock Preschool. Volunteering gives you a chance to get to know our teachers, staff, fellow parents and your children’s peers. It gives us the opportunity to teach our children a valuable lesson, to give of themselves, willingly. There is a certain amount of pride a child feels when their parents are recognized as volunteers at their school. There are many different ways to give of your time and talent, not all involving having to be at the school during the day.
Throughout the year we have numerous events, fieldtrips and activities we need help with. We will send out volunteer sign-up sheets as these events arise. Every year parents are needed to help in our hot-lunch program, join our Parent Partners Team, serve as a classroom parent and help in the office. Please know that the time you give to Good Shepherd can make the difference between a good year and a great one! Volunteer Opportunities
